Obsession Fishing 11/21/10
The boys from Buttsville NJ were on today Rob, Paul, Fred, Bagel, Roy and of course Willie ! We pulled away from the dock a little early today and made it across the bay in the dark. When we got to the inlet there was some bird play on the south bar we worked our way to it and did manage a few bites releasing 2 small Stripers and got one keeper out of it and bluefish. As the sun came up the boats were piling out of the inlet and the bite stopped. We were able to go straight out today and saw the Gannets diving at the 2.5 mile line working out to them we stopped on some bait readings the sand eels were so thick we actually hooked two of these 3” fish on jigs hard to believe. We got to the birds and had one great drift putting 9 keeper stripers on board released 3 smaller ones and several blues. We worked this area for awhile the bluefish were taking over then after awhile the spinney dogfish were relentless we decided it was time to troll. We trolled SW away from where the Jig bite was and about 1.5 miles into the troll 2 of the 3 rods went off we cleared the 3rd rod and started cranking on the other two. They both were multiple hook umbrella rigs and you could see the fish piling on as Willie and Roy cranked them in. When Willie got his close I could see 2 Stripers on his rig along with 3 bluefish !!! These were the biggest Stripers of the day 38” / 39” fish fat and packed with sand eels we gaffed the stripers and pulled the blues in behind them. Then to the other bite, they were held alongside while we got the first ones in we had a striper on it came off and we landed 4 more bluefish on that rig at this time we were releasing blues hard to count exactly. We read a pile of fish on the fish finder it was time to get the fish put away get the tangles out of the umbrella rigs and get them back in the water for another pass ! We were in an area by ourselves . We made several other passes and caught fish on each one we boated bluefish and added four more stripers and released one. All in all it was, a great day.
